The cardinal is a beautiful, deep red bird that is rare to see in nature in my city (CDMX) but is more common in the ravines of Toronto. It reminds me of my late grandmother. She loved this bird and had one at home that delighted her with its song every morning. It was a kind of pet that, with its non-verbal cues, showed my grandma discomfort, joy, or anger. Now, spotting a cardinal in Toronto brings back loving memories of her, always with much love and close to my heart.
