Axolotl
The axolotl, or Ambystoma mexicanum, is an amphibian that lives in
Xochimilco Lake and Chalco near Mexico City. This little animal retains
its larval features throughout its adult life (its tadpole-like dorsal
and feathery external gills). It can also regenerate parts of its body,
even some organs like the heart. As an adult, it is very similar to a
salamander, but it is not. It is an endangered species because of the
pollution in the lake and its popularity as a pet.
